Careme
Privacy Policy
Effective and last updated July 26, 2026
North Briton LLC operates Careme, including the Careme Android app and careme.cooking. This policy explains what information Careme collects, why it is used, when it is disclosed, and the choices you have.
The short version
Careme saves the choices and feedback you provide so it can remember your kitchen, generate better recipes for you, and improve recipes for other cooks. North Briton LLC does not sell or rent your personal information.
Information Careme collects
Account and contact information
When you create an account, Careme receives an account identifier and email address from its authentication provider. Careme also stores your account creation date, email preferences, and any subscription status needed to provide the service.
Your cooking choices and content
Careme retains your favorite store, shopping day, cooking preferences and special instructions, recipe generation requests, recipes you save or dismiss, recent recipe history, recipe ratings, cooked status, written feedback, and questions you ask about recipes. This is the information that lets Careme remember your selections and learn from your feedback.
Location and farmers market information
You can enter a ZIP code or optionally allow the app to use your device location to find nearby stores. When you use the farmers market feature, Careme also processes the market name, location, and photos you choose to upload. Careme uses uploaded photos to identify ingredients and does not intentionally retain the original photo files after that analysis; the identified ingredients and market details are retained.
Technical and usage information
Careme and its service providers may collect IP address, browser and device type, operating system, app or page activity, referring page, timestamps, diagnostic information, and cookie or session identifiers. Careme uses necessary cookies for sign-in, security, service operation, and limited guest features. Analytics and conversion-measurement tools may use their own cookies or similar technologies.
How Careme uses information
- Operate, secure, troubleshoot, and support Careme.
- Create recipes, shopping lists, recipe images, wine suggestions, and answers to recipe questions.
- Remember your store, cooking preferences, saved recipes, dismissed recipes, ratings, and feedback.
- Personalize future recipe suggestions and improve generated recipes for you and other Careme users.
- Send recipe emails you request and service messages about your account.
- Measure app use, signups, reliability, and the effectiveness of Careme promotions.
- Prevent abuse and comply with legal obligations.
When information is disclosed
North Briton LLC does not sell or rent personal information. It discloses information only as needed for the following purposes:
- Service providers. Providers help Careme with authentication and account management (Clerk), cloud hosting and storage (including Microsoft Azure), AI recipe generation and image analysis (including OpenAI), AI recipe critique (including Google Gemini), email delivery (SendGrid), analytics and session diagnostics (including Microsoft Clarity), tag management and conversion measurement (including Google Tag Manager and the tags configured through it), and operational monitoring. They receive only the information needed to perform their services.
- Grocery and location services. Careme may send a ZIP code, store identifier, or location query to grocery inventory and store-location providers. Careme does not send your Careme email address with those inventory queries.
- Legal and safety reasons. Information may be disclosed when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect users, investigate abuse, or protect Careme and North Briton LLC.
- Business transfer. If Careme or its assets are transferred, information may transfer with the service, subject to this policy and applicable law.
Careme does not provide the contents of your recipe selections, cooking preferences, or written feedback to third parties for their independent marketing.
Public recipe links
Generated recipe and shopping-list pages have shareable links and may be viewed by other people who receive or discover those links. Questions, answers, ratings, or feedback tied to a shared recipe may also be visible to other people with access to that recipe. Do not put private or sensitive information in recipe instructions, questions, or feedback.
Retention and security
Careme keeps account information while your account is active and retains cooking selections, preferences, generated content, and feedback for as long as they are useful to provide and improve the service, unless you ask for deletion. Public, generated recipe and shopping-list pages may be kept after account deletion so shared links continue to work, but Careme will remove or de-identify personal information associated with them when reasonably possible.
Careme may retain limited records longer when required for fraud prevention, security, legal compliance, resolving disputes, or enforcing agreements. Deleted information may remain temporarily in encrypted backups before those backups age out.
Careme uses administrative and technical safeguards appropriate to the service. Information is transmitted between the app and Careme over HTTPS. No storage or transmission method is completely secure, so absolute security cannot be promised.
Delete your Careme account and data
You can request deletion from the app or from any browser; you do not need to reinstall the app. Email [email protected] with the subject “Careme account deletion request.” Send the request from the email address on your Careme account so North Briton LLC can verify it. You may request deletion of the entire account or only specific selections, questions, or feedback.
After verification, North Briton LLC will delete the Careme profile, account identifiers, email index, preferences, saved and dismissed selections, and feedback or questions that can be tied to the account, and will request deletion of the associated authentication account. De-identified generated recipes, aggregate statistics, legally required records, and temporary backup copies may remain as described above. A deletion request will be confirmed and handled within 30 days.
Removing the app, clearing app storage, or signing out does not by itself delete your account.
Your choices
- Edit your cooking preferences, favorite store, shopping day, and email setting in Your Kitchen.
- Remove individual recipes from your recent history in Your Kitchen.
- Decline device location access and enter a ZIP code instead.
- Unsubscribe from recipe emails using the link in an email or your account setting.
- Use the deletion process above to request access, correction, or deletion of personal information.
Children’s privacy
Careme is not directed to children under 13, and North Briton LLC does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Contact North Briton LLC if you believe a child has provided personal information so it can be deleted.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated as Careme changes. The new version will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. Careme will provide additional notice when a change materially affects how personal information is handled.
